Things have been great here in Iceland. My first week has been eventful and super fun. I said goodbye to my family on Tuesday and landed in Reykjavík Wednesday morning. Karen and Joe, my team leaders, met up with me and a couple of the other students and brought us back to their hotel for breakfast. We enjoyed a lovely meal and then they left to drive 10 hours to the base on the other side of the island. I was left behind to explore Reykjavik for my birthday; but first I needed a nap. So they let me stay in their room until checkout time.

I have pictures that I've been posting both on Facebook and Instagram of the city and all the things I saw. But it was great, I loved it and I even went to the mall for a little bit. That night I stayed in a hostel and woke up to a beautiful 8:30 sunrise; it was a little weird. I then walked around a different part of the city until I had to come back to the hostel to pick up my bags and ride a bus to the domestic airport. There I met the rest of the students and we flew together to Eglisstadir.

The next few days were filled with information and getting to know the other students, leaders, and details about the base. In the afternoons on Thursday and Friday we went on a couple hikes to some incredible waterfalls that you can actually see from the base, running down the mountain right next to us. On Saturday night the sun set at about 7pm and it was a super clear night, so we headed outside to see if we could spot the northern lights. And sure enough they were a little faint but we could see the amazing green lights moving above our heads! The moon was also amazing and bright orange rising above the horizon. Then on Sunday morning Karen, our leader, took Elora and I out to go see some horses. We drove a little ways and then we trudged through a couple marshy fields and went under quite a few electrical fences; and finally made it right next to the horses. We stood there for at least an hour, just surrounded by horses, eager for us to pet them. As we were about to leave, they got a little rowdy and one horse bit another and it bucked, almost kicking me right in the face.

So much has happened in just the past few days that it feels like I've been here for weeks. But I so glad to be here and excited for what's next. I am so blessed to have a great church family supporting me and praying for me!

Thank You Everyone!
