Who Knows What The Future Holds

When unfortunate things happen in our lives we have one of two options, to run from it or to learn from it. Of course running sounds extreme but also very attractive and easy. The thing is, it won't actually help. You can't run forever. At some point it will come back and you will have to face it, deal with, and eventually learn from it.

Recently this world has been more in shambles that usual, and it's very disheartening. Especially when my own life is in shambles too. Nothing I have planned so far this year has come to pass, and I'm sure that's true for lots of people. And I must say it's exhausting to try and plan and plan and ultimately cancel. But I'm reminded that "A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps" Proverbs 16:9. Now I don't think this means that we shouldn't plan, but it means that ultimately God has the final say about what will happen or not. And guess what? His timing is better than our timing. I know, it's frustrating to hear but it is true, he's got it under control.

So I'm writing all of this to say, we as a YWAM Iceland Team have decided to postpone the DTS (discipleship training school) until January 2021. For my family this news is not too disappointing because then I get to stay here longer and enjoy Christmas at the Coleman house. For me though, this was very disappointing, but there's still hope. There are still things to do, areas to grow, people to meet, and struggles to overcome. And really if not for struggles wouldn't life be boring? Do you remember that one verse that says, "...but we also boast in our sufferings , because we know that suffering produces perserverance; perserverance, character; and character, hope..." Romans 5:3-4? That is a really encouraging message to me right now because I realize there's profit in all the pain and frustration. I will learn something, because God is always speaking and teaching us.

During this extra time, I've been doing a lot of emailing to communicate what's going on to the students; some of them would really like to do a DTS as soon as possible. So it has been my job to research and suggest other bases for them to look into and pray about. I've also applied for online classes through Colorado Christian University. I will be starting to study psychology this fall semester as a part time student. Of course, I will still be working and raising funds because I won't give up on going back to Iceland :)

I'll try and keep you all updated as things go on but for now I'm staying where I'm at and living day by day with what the Lord has for me. Because the missions field is not just in other countries, my goodness, Americans need Jesus too!

Again, I am so thankful for you all and your encouragement and prayers!
